Camping in the Southern Forest Region

If you are considering a camping holiday there are a lot of options here in the Southern Forest Region. Our camping is not for everyone - some people like a caravan park atmosphere...  Here are a list of other options for camping in our region!

There are also a number of secret campsites you may wish to discover. These are listed below.

Please note – we take pride in our environment so if you are fly camping please clean up your campsite and surrounding area before you leave – and take your rubbish (including soiled tissues and paper) with you. Our clean up volunteers can consist of young children.


DPaW (Department of Parks and Wildlife) Managed Camping

  • Warren River Campsites are located via Heartbreak Trail off Old Vasse Rd and approximately 17km from the centre of Pemberton These campsites are allocated and have pit toilets and fire pits in season. Camping fees do apply.

  • Black Point – Park fees are applicable however you can only camp in the managed campsites along the way – access is by 4WD only and remember to be considerate and clean up and take any mess with you when you leave.

  • Carey Brook Campsites (Including Boat Landing Camp sites on the Donnelly River) – These are  well positioned. These include pit toilets. Camping Fees do apply.

  • Lake Jasper – 4WD Access Only – Park fees are applicable. You can camp in the campsites along the lake foreshore – access is by 4WD only and as there are no rubbish bins provided please take any mess with you when you leave.

  • Shannon National Park – currently closed – SHOWERS, pit toilets and fire pits. Camping Fees are applicable.

  • Windy Harbour Camping ground is a great place to camp and costs around $11 per adult per night and $5 per child. There are no powered sites available however there are hot showers and clean toilets and you are less than 100m from the beach.

  • Yeagarup Beach – Park fees are applicable however you can camp on the beach or in the campsites along the way – access is by 4WD only. Again as no rubbish service is available please clean up and take any mess with you when you leave.

  • Big Brook Arboretum- 10km from Pemberton along the Karri Forest Explorer Drive (turn in 2km from the Big Brook Dam) – site fees applicable

  • Vasse Hwy/Boat Landing Rd (North side of Carey Bridge on highway – no facilities) now is part of Greater Beedelup National Park and camp sites have been removed.

Free Camping is available at…

  • Moons Crossing (Pet friendly – not accessible for vans)

  • Rooneys Bridge (not accessible for vans)

  • Blackberry Pool (access unknown – the other side of the river from Moons Crossing)

  • ‘P’ Pull over area on Vasse Hwy south of Storry Road and before Boat landing road.

Caution – Please let someone know where you are going if you are Camping in the area. You can contact Donnelly District DPaW on 08 9776 1207 however they do prefer you contact friends and family with your travel arrangements.


Pets are not allowed in our National Parks – the 1080 baiting program is fatal to dogs and cats however has been instrumental in ensuring native animals have a safe habitat to live in – and the program has been successful as our native animals are returning to the parks.

At the end of the day - if you want someone to do it for you ask us! It is what we are great at!
